Quick Facts About Fleas

• Fleas feed on blood but can live more than 100 days without eating

• Female fleas can consume up to 15 times their body weight in blood.

• It might seem like fleas can fly, but they can’t. They are master athletes and can jump up to 200 times their length.

• Humans and animals can be allergic to flea saliva. If your dog or cat has an itchy rash and/or hair loss, your vet’s first step is often to ensure your pet is on a flea prevention treatment.

• A flea can lay 50 eggs per day. You can see how a flea infestation can get out of control if you don’t act fast.

• Fleas are built to survive. Their exoskeleton and tiny size let them hide almost anywhere and make them very difficult to “squish.”

• Fleas are sneaky and smart. They will remain in the pupal stage until a potential host is nearby.
