Periodontal disease (gum disease) is the most common disease occurring in dogs and cats. It is progressive. It can be slowed but not reversed. Regular dental care can prevent this.
Animal Medical Clinic has a full service Dental Care Center located at our Melbourne office. In order for a complete evaluation, cleaning and treatment to be done, anesthesia will be used. You can find more information about anesthesia for dental procedures at https://www.aaha.org/your-pet/pet-owner-education/ask-aaha/Anesthesia-and-Dental-Cleaning/
We take a number of safety considerations during professional dental cleaning, such as pre-anesthetic lab work, tracheal intubation to prevent aspiration, monitoring of EKG, respirations, blood pressure, oxygen saturation and body temperature, and patient warming blankets.
